Landscape pictures are not my favorite thing to shoot, but I thought that some of the hiking pics turned out really well. I thought they had a bit of a "Lord of the Rings"-ish feel. Maybe a bit dark, but I can always try to play with that on photoshop.

Flash Project

This project was quite fun, I rounded up my models, and we went out on the town. I thought the best place to catch some great movement would be down in the Central West End. I really liked the results I got when I used the night portrait function on my camera. I thought the movement was really interesting, although it was a bit hard to control my subjects. I found that in order to get the best and sharpest photo you had to make your subject stand in their position for at least 10 seconds.

As there was no assignment this week I just shot some stuff around my boyfriends house on the river bluffs. I had harvested some greenish tomatos a few days earlier and left them on the railing to get some color. I thought they made for some interesting photographs. I did arrange them according to color gradiation.

This project was really fun to do, it made me realize that you can document just about anything and have fun doing it. For me this assignment was just like my regular Saturday night.

Well, another assignment has come and gone. I found that all my messing around with these "new" functions, has me more confused than ever. I tried to use the White Balance(WB) function while I was inside, and instead of helping me it seemed to hinder. Every single picture I took was either way too cool or way too warm, making my model look like an orange person or a corpse I removed from the morgue, and posed on my couch. I believe with the help of CS4 I could correct the color balance, but I would like to learn more new techniques on inside shooting. While the assignment was not only to use the WB function but theISO as well, it is important to incorporate these two things to work together. Guess I still have much to learn.

The First Assignment...Failure! Mutiny on the PC's! Pun Intended.

The first assignment in Digital Photography was to shoot a series of indoor/outdoor photographs using the "White Balance" button on our camera. This little feature was something that I had no knowledge of before last Thursday. I have had my camera for a little over a year, so I am a little embarrassed admitting this. A very useful little tool; which corrects the color in your picture depending on the light source available. After playing with this feature all weekend and shooting some beautiful photographs in Hawn State Park near St. Genevieve, MO, I felt it was time to start on the assignment.

The actual assignment itself was easy to accomplish, and I felt like I learned a lot about both my camera and lighting. I also felt like I got some great photos out of the deal. Then it was time for the technical part, I got the pics off my Compact Flash card uploaded into Photoshop Elements 4. Then decided before I was going to post them onto the Internet I was going to whittle down the grouping by eliminating the less than perfect pics.. This is where I ran into trouble. I somehow, instead of deleting an individual file, I deleted the entire folder. Oh my GOD! My limited knowledge of computers is no help to me at this stage! I looked everywhere I could think of. I found something called "proofs"?? in Photoshop, and I can see the picture, but when I try to retrieve the file the only answer I get is 'NO'.

So no, I did not complete the first assignment.

This is just a trial run.
